heart cherry

Tart cherry juice and concentrate have been found to accelerate muscle recovery, decrease exercise-induced muscle pain, and prevent strength loss in elite athletes, such as cyclists and marathon runners (6).

A study in 20 active women noted that those who drank 2 ounces (60 ml) of tart cherry juice twice daily for 8 days recovered quicker and had less muscle damage and soreness after completing repeated sprint exercises, compared to the placebo group (11).

Additionally, the study revealed that when cherry intake was combined with the gout medication allopurinol, gout attacks were 75% less likely than during periods when neither cherries or allopurinol were consumed (18).

A study in 20 people showed that those who drank tart cherry juice concentrate for 7 days experienced significant increases in melatonin levels, sleep duration, and sleep quality, compared to a placebo (19).

Background: There is a residual risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) despite intensive statin therapy for secondary prevention. The aim of this study was to investigate whether coronary plaque regression and stabilization are reinforced by the addition of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) to high-dose pitavastatin (PTV).

2. Carefully unravel both pie crusts onto a flat surface (we lined ours with parchment paper), and cut out about 16 hearts. Gather and reroll scraps as needed to cut out more hearts (get an even number).

Prunus avium 'White Heart' is a very old cherry, but hard to come by these days. We're not sure why; its heart-shaped pale fruit have good flavour and it makes a vigorous, healthy tree with good canker resistance. Late fruiting. Self-fertile. Like all cherry trees, its pretty (white) blossom in spring attracts a range of pollinators including bees.

Our White Heart cherry trees are bare root. At the height of the lifting season - between November and March - there may be up to a month's delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for White Heart cherry trees from March to September are confirmed prior to dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide video on receipt of your order.

This is one of my all time favorite recipes! I love the combination of chocolate and cherry. Add the oatmeal and it is delicious. I usually use dark chocolate chips. People often request that I bring these cookies to parties and pitch-ins.

Great cookie for my whole family...husband has heart issues, I need low sodium, and son is allergic to tree nuts & peanuts (most of the heart healthy recipient use peanut butter or walnuts to replace oil.). Incredibly easy, too. I found some dried oranges at Trader Joe's and made a batch with oranges....just as good as the cherry recipe.

These are delicious. I doubled the recipe to take on a ski trip with 4 teenagers. I found out I only had 1 cup of cherries after I'd already mixed most of the ingredients together. Luckily I had a 1/2 cup each of Craisins and dried blueberries in the pantry to toss in the dough. These are hearty, healthy, and scrumptious cookies.

Delicious and so easy! I added a handful of chopped pecans too. Made these for my inlaws tonight - threw all the ingredients together (6 mins or less) while dinner was simmering and cooked them while we were eating. Served warm right after dinner and they were a hit! Can't wait to make them with dates and coconut instead of chocolate and cherry!

I rated this recipe four stars instead of five because of how delicate the cookie is. I wanted to take these to a potluck and many of them fell apart in transit. However they did receive rave reviews for their taste which was definitely better once they cooled. I loved the combination of chocolate and cherries, but I'd like to find a heartier cookie base to put it in. I will definitely play around with this one.

Made these yesterday for a Super Bowl party. I followed the recipe exactly, and they came out great! The whole plate disappeared before the end of the night, and they tasted so good no one could believe they were "heart smart." These were simple to put together and very tasty. I will definitely make these again.

Awesome recipe! The cookies are lucky to have made it to the oven, the dough was that delish! The only thing I would do differently is to double, triple, quad the recipe so there would be MORE. Thank you so much for sharing this! Nothing I like better than cookies, and if they are good for your heart, fab!

I made these today & can't stop eating them. They are hearty and satisfying & I wouldn't change a thing! They remind me of the TLC boxed Oatmeal Chocolate cookies - which I apparently don't need to buy ever again since I can make them! The cherry flavor was very subtle but adds to the chewy texture. If you aren't a fan of cherries, I'm sure these would be great with dried cranberries or even raisins.

According to a 2018 review, 11 out of 16 human studies into cherries and inflammation showed that they decreased inflammation. This applied to both tart and sweet varieties of cherry, and it included cherry fruits, juices, and concentrates.

The review discussed a 2012 study that found that taking cherry concentrate or eating cherries led to a 35% reduction in gout episodes over a 2-day period. This effect remained the same regardless of sex, body weight, purine and alcohol intake, diuretic use, and anti-gout medication use.

In general, a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and low in saturated fat is best for heart health. However, cherries may be especially valuable in a heart-healthy diet, as they show potential for lowering blood pressure.

The 2018 review mentioned several studies in which various cherry products lowered blood pressure. One such older study in females with diabetes found that taking 40 grams (g) of tart cherry concentrate per day for 6 weeks significantly lowered blood pressure.

Another 2013 study involved participants aged between 20 and 85 years. Among other outcomes, the researchers studied the effects on sleep of those who ate a cherry-based product and those who had a placebo.

It is important to roll the balls until smooth before placing on your baking sheet and pressing thumbprints into them. Doing this helps the thumbprints to go on smoothly without too many cracks, creating the perfect heart shape!

While two thumbprints do create a heart, they won't be perfect and that's totally ok. You can go in with a smaller finger and fix up the shape of the heart after you got the initial two thumbprints down.
