Go Back Now (feat. Beacon)
But to set up her story, Leo goes back generations, describing her family as colonizers who benefited from generational wealth before losing it. She believes that perhaps the bad karma comes from that.
Go Back Now (feat. Beacon)
The best memories I have as a youth are attributed to the Beacon. The first trophy from a basketball tournament was from the Beacon. The Beacon was our neutral ground. I have been a youth football coach every year since 2009. The first time I coached was at a Beacon league when I worked there. I mentor opportunity youth today because of the people that had my back in the Beacon. I learned the consequences of street life through many things, but my year-long ban played an important part.
As soon as you enter the vault, you'll enter this playground-like maze area. You'll want to follow the main path, and as soon as you reach the corner, you'll enter a tunnel leading you up. Once you're up, you'll see a level seven enemy going back and forth.
When you get back in the vault, continue to follow the main path until you see the stooge walking back and forth. To the left of the walkway is a little path you can walk to avoid the fight. Use that walkway to avoid fighting him.
End your turn, and let the enemy go. Once it's your turn again, defeat the last two, and you'll complete the encounter and be taken back to the vault. When you're back in the vault, use the ladder underneath the ramp to continue the mission.
You'll be taken to an area with a Triangle shape and an enemy patrolling it. You can avoid fighting it too, if you walk behind it as it's doing its rounds. Be sure to pick up the triangle when you get next to it, and then process to go back up the ladder you came from.
The view at the casino overlook is so awesome, you could absolutely make it your final destination. If you headed back to your car from here, you would have bagged yourself a nice 2.4-mile roundtrip hike, complete with a righteous clifftop money spot.
Thank you as always for a detailed, funny, and thorough write up. We did cold spring to beacon via beacon fire tower and clocked it at about 11 miles. Love how you incorporate the history and stories into your guides.
Wish my husband and I read this more as we hiked because we totally went the wrong way on the long loop. After the tractor we made the mistake of going right on the white trail. Ended up going north west to route 9 in Fishkill. First time we ever had to cab it back to out car. 13 miles of walking.. yay! Only us!! Lol.. but it definitely was an hike and may just do the out and back next time. ? Oh and our dog Remington loved it!!!
Incredible trail guide. My buddy and I made the Beast Loop our virgin trek in the Hudson River Valley, and had no regrets! Highlights were the Fire Tower and the open rock faces on the yellow trail part of the larger loop. Started around 8am and finished at 1pm, so great time estimate. Once we rejoined red trail at the end the afternoon crowd had joined in and the parking lot was full. On the larger part of the loop we hardly saw anyone which was great. Thanks again, Mike, and keep up the good work! My buddy and I will be back to try more trails.
Thanks for the awesome feedback, Bef! Very much appreciated. The way you described that obnoxiously healthy human (my new favorite phrase) at the end is giving me the mental image of Rob Lowe from Parks & Rec. I hope he did some yoga at the top.
Thanks again for the amazing trail guides! It was extremely helpful for research and helping me Be Prepared (Scout Motto). I hiked this on December 2013 and to my surprise, the entire trail was covered in 1-2 feet of snow. It was a very strenuous but rewarding hike of a life time! The views were breathtaking and super spectacular! Thank goodness I made it to the firetower and back on time. One of the best days of my life!
"My fellow Americans, let us take that first step. Let us...step back from the shadow of war and seek out the way of peace. And if that journey is a thousand miles, or even more, let history record that we, in this land, at this time, took the first step." --"Radio and Television Address to the American People on the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (316)," July 26, 1963, Public Papers of the Presidents: John F. Kennedy, 1963.
"I really don't know why it is that all of us are so committed to the sea, except I think it's because in addition to the fact that the sea changes, and the light changes, and ships change, it's because we all came from the sea. And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea - whether it is to sail or to watch it - we are going back from whence we came." --"Remarks in Newport at the Australian Ambassador's Dinner for the America's Cup Crews (383)," September 14, 1962, Public Papers of the Presidents: John F. Kennedy, 1962.
"...I come here today...not just because you are doing well and because you are outstanding students, but because we expect something of you. And unless in this free country of ours we are able to demonstrate that we are able to make this society work and progress, unless we can hope that from you we are going to get back all of the talents which society has helped develop in you, then, quite obviously, all the hopes of all of us that freedom will not only endure but prevail, of course, will be disappointed. So we ask the best of you...I congratulate you on what you have done, and most of all I congratulate you on what you are going to do." --"Remarks in New York City to the National Convention of the Catholic Youth Organization (463)," November 15, 1963, Public Papers of the Presidents: John F. Kennedy, 1963.
You will begin the quest in the greenhouse just outside the Hanged Queen's boss room. Activate the Beacon in front of you, then immediately turn around and run back into the empty boss arena. Run to the far side where you will find Folk Potions Research Report 02, then check the right side to find a Lavender.
Go back to the greenhouse and past the Beacon to begin the level proper. Immediately upon entering the bloody library again you will encounter a Shield knight as well as a couple of weaker swordsmen. They are easy to kill, but as usual you need to be careful not to get overwhelmed by them in this small space. Defeat them and you will be free to grab the Collection of Memories Lv1 on the ground. Also note the elevator, which is locked for the moment but will be important later on.
Head deeper into the library. When you reach the end of the path that leads into the large open area, immediately round the corner and take the other path leading backwards. We are headed to the platform where we encountered Emerald in the previous Royal Garden level. He is now gone, replaced by a Note: Alchemy Researcher's Letter of Complaint. Turn around and head back to the open area.
At this point I just recommend cheesing these guys with the Bow rather than actually fighting. You can catch them in a nice counter loop if you are good at Deflecting, but their multi-hit combos can be a little hard to predict, and deal a lot of damage if you fail. Your best bet is just to stay back and use your Plague Weapon of choice to wear him down, then drop a two-hit Claw combo whenever he finishes one of his long attack strings. Defeating him will get you an Alchemy Enhancer as well as some Twin Swords Skill Shards.
Check behind the nearby elevator to find the Novice Researcher's Letter of Complaint Note, then go back around and run across the large room, past the iron door on the left, and into the large greenhouse on the other side. In the front room you will encounter a Shield knight and a Scythe undead, but in the backroom you will find another one of those powerful Greatsword knights we fought in the previous Royal Garden.
Bow is a great option here as always, otherwise just keep your distance and wait for him to let loose one of his slow sword attacks. This is your opportunity to drop a couple Saber or Claw attacks on him, then back off and wait for another opening. Don't get greedy though, as he can chain his attacks together in surprising ways, occasionally comboing right into a Critical attack, so have your Feather Dart at the ready. Defeating him will get you an Alchemy Enhancer and Greatsword Skill Shards. There are no other items in this area so head toward the exit.
Key to the Library Elevator gives us access to that locked elevator we passed wayyy back at the start of the level, so make your way back through the greenhouse and library to reach the elevator near the first Beacon.
With key in hand, inspect the Sea of Trees Researcher's Secret Letter, then follow the path forward until you see the ladder on the left side. Take the ladder up, then drop down the other side to find yourself back in Emerald's hiding spot in the library.
You may remember a locked iron gate back near the second Beacon. Make your way back to that gate then use our newly found key to unlock it and complete the memory. Be sure to grab the Hermes Answer: Formula Research Note off the ground on the other side of the gate, then speak to Aisemy to exit the level.
Likewise, now that Facebook can make its revenue numbers public, we know that the rumors back then were accurate: the company made $2 billion in 2010, $3.7 billion in 2011. I feel nostalgic for the time in my life when those numbers were surprising.
We are going to give away one free pass to the entire program to a filmmaker/media maker who wants to expand their project into a location-based story, or create something new. Filmmakers interested in participating should submit a short treatment describing the content of their project, as well as how it having a location based element using beacon technology will enhance it and key crew bios. Pitches should be not longer than 2 pages, a PDF, and should be emailed directly to Rose Vincelli Gustine, Senior Programs Producer, Made in NY Media Center by IFP (rvincelli@ifp.org) by June 4th. Winning pitch will gain free access to all three elements of the series for one person, including an installation of their location-based project in the Made in NY Media Center by IFP. 041b061a72
